Advancements in long-lasting, waterproof, styling cosmetics mean beautiful faces can stay fresh for longer. However, there is a downside – removing that beautiful makeup. The harder it is to remove makeup, the more likely you are to pull on your skin, which is a big no-no as far as we can tell. Therefore, it is important to have the right makeup remover and tips for the job!

See below for everything you need to know about how to remove stubborn makeup without aging your skin in the process.

Gently Remove Eye Makeup

Wash your hands before touching your face to prevent germs from spreading to your skin and eyes, which can cause irritation. Then, choose a good-quality, effective makeup remover. Once the first step is complete, the next step is to use remover techniques to avoid scrubbing or rough rubbing. Gentle patting and gentle circular motions should be enough to remove makeup from the eye area without harming the skin.

While makeup cloths are a convenient way to remove dirt, they can leave a residue. After handling the cloth, wash your face with a mild detergent. To avoid irritation, use fragrance- and alcohol-free wipes.

Rinse off Eye Makeup Remover

While many people skip this step, keep in mind that makeup removers contain many ingredients and chemicals that make them stable to shelf, and you don’t want these chemicals or any residue to stay on your skin. The accumulation of all these preservatives and residues can lead to premature aging of the skin. Find a gentle soap like Dove’s Beauty Bar and rinse it off quickly. Drugstore cleansers are both affordable and effective, making them a must-have for your skin care routine, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Tip: The eye area is the thinnest skin on the face and is very sensitive. Pulling or pulling on the skin can cause damage and rupture of delicate blood vessels. You can easily tear the thin, sensitive skin area around your eyes. If you have to force to remove your makeup, you should consider using a new product.

Soak Your Makeup

‘Soaking’ your eyes with a cotton pad is a very gentle way to remove eye makeup. Cover the entire eye area with the [makeup remover] gel, and remember to cover the area under the eyes as well. Spray two cotton pads with Avène hot spring water($14)and place them on your eyes like cucumbers. Gently shake the cotton pad for about 15 seconds to help break down the makeup, repeating if necessary. A cotton swab should be used to remove any remaining makeup, especially around the lash line. Even if you want to go without washing your face and using makeup wipes during the long days, and then that’s it, you can enjoy spa-grade treatments.

Double Cleanse Stubborn Makeup

Layers of sunscreen and waterproof makeup simply can’t fight against cleansing oils. Soak a cotton pad in Boscia’s MakeUp-BreakUp ($37) oil and gently rub it from the inner corner of the eye outward. This oil breaks down makeup and helps remove it from the skin and eyelashes. Sunday Riley’s Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm ($50) is another popular double cleansing product. Once applied, the lip balm turns into a silky oil, allowing makeup to slip off your face.

If you’re only using cleansing oil, the greasy residue may act as a barrier that doesn’t allow other skin products, such as eye creams, to penetrate properly. So, after applying essential oils, use a second cleanser as you want your skin to be clean and bare so that active ingredients like eye creams, serums, etc., penetrate deep into the skin and work best.

Look for the Active Ingredient

Make sure the products you use contain active ingredients that address your specific skin concerns. If you feel a burning sensation after using a particular product, your skin may experience an adverse reaction. To test your skin’s reaction to the new ingredient, clean the inside of your forearm and take a sample of the product. Wait 24 hours to see how your skin reacts.

Take Care of Sensitive Skin

A makeup remover for sensitive skin can protect your under-eye area, which is said to be one of the first areas of the face to show aging. It is very important to take care of this area gently. Smiling, squinting, and rubbing the eyes can cause the area to be subjected to a lot of wear and tear, resulting in wrinkles and fine lines. For eye makeup remover, it is recommended to use a liquid, oil-free, fragrance-free, and non-stinging eye makeup remover. Because these products are free of irritants and oils that can get into the eyes and cause unwanted puffiness in the eye area.

Apply the eye makeup remover to a lint-free toning cloth and gently press into the eyes for 20 seconds. This gives eye makeup a chance to dissolve and avoid unnecessary friction and touch. Then, after 20 seconds, wipe down on the eye makeup and mascara. Move the pad upwards so that it reaches under the upper lashes.

Fold Your Cotton Pads

To get the most out of a cotton pad, fold up the unused part with each wipe. Using the same side of a cotton pad will redeposit the makeup you removed. Wipe eye makeup and mascara downwards. Turn the pad or cloth over and move it upwards to the underside of your upper lashes. Using this method allows you to avoid using multiple cotton pads.

Protect Your Eyes

If you wear contact lenses and prefer a water-based makeup remover, Koh Gen Do’s Spa Makeup Remover is recommended. Soak two cotton pads (the one made by Koh Gen Do is definitely the softest and most luxurious) and apply one above the lashes and one under the lashes. Then, let them stay there for a minute or so and let them get their work done without pulling their eyes

Use a “no stinging” formula as it not only creates irritation when the eyes sting, but it can also cause puffiness in the eyes, which is a top concern for many people.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized

After applying the eye cream to your freshly washed face, your skin should feel a little moist. Instead of waiting for your skin to dry out, use a moisturizer like Drunk Elephant’s Protini Peptide Moisturizer ($68) to lock in moisture. This moisturizer balances oil production and protects the skin from fine lines and wrinkles. Forgot this step? Spray a facial mist or moisturizing toner to rehydrate your face.

Keep Your Morning Routine up to You

As the morning routine maintains the previous night’s cleansing effort, the cleansed skin will allow the active ingredients in other products to do their job. La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser cleanses the skin without stripping it of moisture. The cleanser also removes any makeup residue, such as makeup stuck to a stubborn eyelash. After cleansing your skin, wake up and brighten your eyes with Patchology’s FlashPatch Resurfacing Eye Gel.
